Accused was convicted on 12 counts of fraud. The crimes were committed by paying company money into other people’s accounts to avoid detection. Some of the account holders were paid for agreeing to avail their bank accounts.
The accused, a first offender at the age of 35, has an 8-year-old school going child, whose father has deserted the household. The pension money of the accused has been withheld and the process of recovering the loss will only be started after the accused has finally been sentenced.
The accused is sentenced to six years of imprisonment of which three years are suspended for five years on condition that the accused is not convicted of fraud, committed during the period of suspension. This reduced sentence also takes into account the fact that she has her child to take care of.
